Some of the most beautiful work of this craftsman, and many others, are in this book “Liège Gunmakers through their Work. 1800 - 1950”.

Batard Maurice

It is a single-shot pistol with annular percussion. The system is called “top break”. It is a matter of opening the breech by pressing the opening pushbutton on the left side of the breech. The weapon is a Flobert 22 long caliber.

The trigger is protected by trigger guard with fingerrest. The plates of grips look like wood to me. (?) gridded with some engravings.

The gun carries a rectangular front sight fixed by a tenon-mortar system. The V-shaped sight is adjustable in length.

The weapon is engraved "Maurice Batard arquebusier à Tournai" (Place Crombez, 24). However, I think it is the dealer. It seems to me that the weapon was manufactured in Liège by an unidentified manufacturer.

This weapon bears the hallmarks of proofs from Liège, namely:

ELG* in a crowned oval: definitive acceptance, in use from 1893 to 1968.

AF*: controller countermark, in use from 1877 to 1968.

Peron (little step): inspection, in use from 1853 to the present day.

R crowned: striped barrel, in use from 1894 to 1968.

The weapon also bears the mark FL 22L mentioned above.

Appendix: advertising leaflet of Maurice Batard in Tournai.
