Some of the most beautiful work of this craftsman, and many others, are in this book “Liège Gunmakers through their Work. 1800 - 1950”.

BORGUET D. &Cie

This is one of the countless variations of the British Bull-Dog system originally designed by the Birmingham gunsmith Webley in the mid-1870s. This one, in 38 or 380 caliber, should better be called a "Puppy," the term Bull-Dog being preferentially applied to large-caliber weapons (equal to or greater than 10 mm). It is a pleasant revolver, with its checkered grips, arched grip, and fluted cylinder.

We have little information on this weapon:

Markings:

ELG in oval over star (rear of cylinder): proof house mark from September 8, 1846, to July 11, 1893.

503 on the right side of the receiver: probably serial number.

BULLDOG in one word, upper receiver.

Initials DB, receiver under the left grip.

These initials DB are not definitively attributed to date. They may correspond to the gunsmith D. Borguet (& Cie), active in the BE between 1894 and 1895, without further information. The period of activity of this gunsmith is compatible with this type of revolver.

In summary, this "Puppy" type revolver in 38 (or 380) caliber was produced in Liège before 1893. It is possible that its maker was D. Borguet, but this remains hypothetical in the absence of additional information.
