Some of the most beautiful work of this craftsman, and many others, are in this book “Liège Gunmakers through their Work. 1800 - 1950”.

Clément & Dolman

It is a weapon "Peperbox" type pinfire. The photos do not allow you to count the capacity of the weapon, 6 or 8 shots for sure? The curved trigger can be folded. The hammer has no crest, this indicates in my opinion that the weapon is single action only? The grips consists of two smooth walnut wood inserts held by a central ear screw. It ends with a rod aimed inside.

The weapon bears a hallmark of the Liège proofhouse, namely:

ELG* in a vertical oval: definitive acceptance in use from 1846 to 1893.

Trademarks

This weapon has different markings on the cylinder, namely:

Manufactured by Gunther et Cie – B rt de Strasbourg: this mark may seem questionable given the presence of Liège proofs. Gunther et Cie would rather be the French dealer of whom I have not found any trace.

C & D in a lying oval: this unidentified brand is undeniably from Liège. I did not find this brand on the different pieces of Chamelot & Delvigne that I was able to consult! So I stick to my first idea, it would be a brand of the Liège manufacturer Clement & Dolman, but again without having yet found the weapon that would definitively accredit this hypothesis.

GG

Here's what I say on the website (Fagnus page) about the C&D brand.

In connection with mark

In the file FAGNUS Alexandre, a question remain open, the significance of mark C&D in an oval lying?

However we know (almost) all that FAGNUS created a company with CLEMENT Charles, which leaves me think that CLEMENT probably manufactured revolvers for FAGNUS.

I thus advance the assumption that C&D in an oval means CLEMENT and DOLMAN, this last patronym pertaining to the wife CLEMENT born DOLMAN J.

The latter seemed well with the fact of the company since with the death of Charles, it is it which ensured the continuation of the business with LOISELET Victor.

But this pepperbox could be from Chamelot and Delvigne !

So; C&D : Chamelot & Delvigne, or Clément & Dolman ????
