Debeche or Delderenne

Here is a nice flintlock pistol with a bayonet called launching that unfolds by pulling on the trigger guard.

Claude Gaier was kind enough to light our lantern: This so-called "Scottish" pistol dates, according to the proof of Liège, from the time when it was not yet defined according to the decree of Napoleon - so around 1810-1811 - but was already approaching it, in a more or less official way.

As for the initials AD, they could, without certainty, refer either to an Albert DEBECHE, who at that time was living at No.857 in Haute-Sauvenière, or to an André DELDERENNE, mentioned at the Faubourg Saint-Léonard in 1791.These craftsmen were not registered arms dealers, but they could very well have signed a weapon at a time when there was still great confusion in the legislation.

I am very surprised by the presence of a kind of registration number N 612.84 31 on the grips which is otherwise nicely checked (the engraving on the chest of the pistol is also very successful). I don’t know why I think of a customs officer’s pistol.

I hope that the mystery will come to light one day !
