FRANCOTTE Auguste ou Charles Ernest Auguste ?
Here is
a small
FRANCOTTE
revolver in caliber 380, chromed, with a folding release, which is a bit out of
the ordinary. Firstly by the fact that it has a central percussion while the
cylinder, which is otherwise oddly fluted, was designed for a pinfire cartridge.
Secondly, because the rod for the ejection of the casings is of a different
model than the usual thin rods.
Few
markings:
ELG on
star in oval: accepted between 1846 and 1893;
N
crowned: countermark of a controller, in use between 1853 and 1877.
The crowned Italic
AF
trademark registered by one of the members of the
FRANCOTTE
dynasty must have been dated between 1853 and 1877; it is certainly not (and it
is logical...) to be found in the list of known trademarks, which started in
1880.
GP
It could therefore be
FRANCOTTE
Auguste (2nd of this name) (1848 to 1868),
or
FRANCOTTE Charles-Ernest-Auguste (1868 to
1878).
