Some of the most beautiful work of this craftsman, and many others, are in this book “Liège Gunmakers through their Work. 1800 - 1950”.

Marchand Hubert

Here is a revolver with 6 spindles of 9 mm calibre, which could be made from Liège, but it is not certain since the photos sent so far do not have any Liège stamp.

There is an HM which could – if it were from Liège – be attributed to Hubert Marchand, but it does not come under the patent filed by him in 1875 and referred to in a previous identification.

Note that the two revolvers in question also have nothing to do with the patent filed by Hubert Marchand. It’s a matter of dispelling

The LA around a porch species has not been identified so far. But one can dream that one day...

GP with the help of HPH and PHL.

Here is a shotgun with external hammers, "English" butt, rear plates, Lefaucheux type opening key, of Liège manufacture.

The markings

ELG on star in oval: acceptance between 1846 and 1893

EL: provisional test since 1852

Peron: inspection since 1853

17. 0 : it could be the size in mm (approximately 16)

M under star: countermark of a controller between 1877 and 1968

HM contiguous: could be the initials of Hubert Marchand, active around 1875, having deposited a patent for a revolver that year...

HGR: unknown until now.

Marchand Hubert

Revolver of the Lefaucheux type, pinfire and open frame.

The barrel is with eight sides and the cylinder with 6 shots is not grooved.

The loading is practiced by a side door and unloading with the rod, which is fixed and slides in a guide contiguous to the console.

The weapon carries the lawful punches of the proofhouse of Liege, namely:

Spangled ELG in an oval: acceptance of 1846 to 1893.

X spangled: countermark of the controller of use of 1877 to our days.

This weapon was thus manufactured between 1877 and 1893.

Mark HM Breveté indicates that the weapon was patented, a minor improvement with the Lefaucheux system probably.

The only assumption that I then to currently advance is MARCHAND Hubert who in 1875 deposited a patent for a system of revolver.

I am unaware of course the contents of this patent.

Marchand Hubert

Revolver of pocket of the type “bulldog” large gauge for a weapon of pocket. It is with central percussion and black powder.

The grooved cylinder is with 5 cells.

The handle is bent in nozzle of corbin.

The rather short barrel is round with a handlebar in half-moon.

The swivelling rod is placed in the axis of the cylinder and is used to eject the casings which could possibly have inflated during the shooting.

The load is practiced by a side door dropping thanks to the action of an internal spring.

The trigger finished by a ball bored at its end is folding under the frame.

The weapon carries the punches of the house of tests of Liege which enable us to roughly locate the time of manufacture of this part, i.e. between 1877 and 1893.

Spangled ELG in an oval: final acceptance, of use of 1846 to 1893.

Z spangled: countermark of the controller post 1877.

Mark HM BVT struck an amount of the grips is probably the mark of the manufacturer, BVT meaning "patented" of course.

According to “Who’s Who of  arms manufacturers of Liège”, it could possibly act of MARCHANT Hubert arms manufacturer in Liege having deposited in 1875 a patent for a system of revolver.

Not having this patent, it is not possible for me to currently certify this assumption.
