Some of the most beautiful work of this craftsman, and many others, are in this book “Liège Gunmakers through their Work. 1800 - 1950”.

Mariette Servais

This is a 12mm pinfire pistol. The ripped barrel is one piece with the body and has 5 rifled on the right. The pinfire cartridge slips into a chamber block falling from left to right like a cylinder. No extraction system except a short metal rod also used to hold the breech-block in the closed position. This rod is itself held by a spring. The pear grips consists of two grid walnut pads, connected by two rosettes and a through screw.

The weapon is covered with a scroll engraving.

I didn’t see any punches of the Liège proofhouse on the photos !

This weapon is the subject of the Belgian patent n° 014 407 filed on 16.05.1865 by Mariette Servais of Cheratte (Liège). He is the son of the famous Mariette Guillaume, a prolific inventor. Servais is known to us for filing 5 patents of inventions.

The brand Houiller Blanchard Bte in Paris actually belongs to the Parisian dealer of this weapon. The fact that it claims to be patented is just a publicity trick. It has nothing to do with the patent of this gun.
