Some of the most beautiful work of this craftsman, and many others, are in this book “Liège Gunmakers through their Work. 1800 - 1950”.
For more detail see: LIEGE GUNMAKERS
Nagant 1878-86
Marked
"Nagant brevete".
The
letter "E" followed by "112" is the civic guard unit number.
A little
"reminder" for history buffs:
On
August 25, 1830 the performance of Auber's romantic opera "La Muette de Portici"
at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels caused riots the next day.
These riots drove out the occupier and led to the birth of Belgium in October of that year. The Civic Guard is the militia created in October 1830 in the young independent Belgium.
Alain
Very
interesting, and especially rare. The registration number of the Civic Guard is
as described in the book by Louis Leconte.
Never seen him before.

The weapon
It is about a revolver NAGANT model 1878/86 with central percussion and double action, intended for the Belgian army and which was manufactured by firm NAGANT in LIEGE then delivered by the Manufacture d’armes de l’Etat street Saint Léonard in LIEGE.
This weapon is manufactured out of acid Bessemer steel for the carcass, it against-lock, the cylinder, the barrel with sides, the carry-rod, the pivot of ring of cap, the axis of cylinder; acid Bessemer steel to be soaked for the trigger guard, the hammer, the trigger, the bar, the door; English crucible cast steel for all the springs; steel of Germany to be soaked for the chain, the strip of the hammer, the hold of the axis of cylinder; English steel for all the screws, the rod, the pivots of the hammer, the trigger and the trigger guard. Interchangeability without any tolerance of many parts.
The barrel is with eight sides safe in its back part where it is surrounded by a swivelling ring which maintains the rod.
The grooved cylinder is with six rooms, this one is model 1878 and is interchangeable enter the various types of revolvers delivered to the Belgian army.
Its loading is practiced by the right side door which is folded back vertically along the trigger guard.
I am unaware of unfortunately the number of specimens manufactured of this weapon.
Punches
The weapon thus carries the punches of this manufacture of State, namely:
