NAGANT M.1883
9mm Norwegian
In the late 1880s, Norway received two 9mm revolvers from Ets NAGANT as a
sample.
After testing in 1881, 40 revolvers were ordered for testing.
In 1882 the Ets NAGANT delivered 20 revolvers in single action and 20 revolvers
in double action.
These revolvers were practically identical to the Belgian M.1878.
On the basis of tests carried out, the NAGANT 9 mm revolvers were accepted, but
it was not until 1984 that Norway placed an order for 150 of these revolvers.
The Ets NAGANT delivered on 15 May 1885 the 150 9mm revolvers, all in DA.
The few examples that were examined showed that these revolvers were more of the
Belgian model 1878/86.
The revolver #14 below is one of the samples supplied by NAGANT in 1882.
Another revolver that is one of the 40 units supplied by NAGANT for the tests
carried out by the Norwegian Army. The nickel-plated finish of this weapon was
executed after it was officially decommissioned in 1931 and sold to the civilian
market.
The "V" mark, not yet identified, was (most likely) applied by the NAGANT
factory; it appears only on the revolvers that are part of the first 40 samples.
