NAGANT M 1887
It was at
the beginning of 1887 that Sweden placed an order from Ets E & L NAGANT for the
supply of a reduced caliber revolver for its officers ; they had previously made
tests with the Swiss revolver M. 1882.
The
specifications of this revolver, designated as the M 87 are as follows:
Length
237 mm, height 130 mm, barrel 114 mm, weight, unloaded 800 g, calibre 7.5 mm.
Single-action (SA) and double-action (DA) operation.
Glossy
black bronzed finish, finely gridded walnut inserts.
Sweden
had sent two officers to the Liège factory to inspect and receive the new
revolvers.
The 2600
revolvers ordered were delivered from 1 June 1888.
The
markings of the weapon presented : frame on the left side the manufacturer’s
mark BREVET NAGANT / serial number 2427 / Swedish approval mark J B (John
BRANDT).
Serial
numbers are also found on the barrel and other main parts.
On the back of the cylinder there is the Belgian
government’s test mark ELG* in oval
and the mark of a factory controller
“E spangled”. There is no serial number on the
barrel.
