NAGANT M.1895 Finnish
Finland
has never acquired Russian M.1895 revolvers, either in Belgium or in Russia.
In 1918,
a considerable number of revolvers fell into the hands of the Finns as spoils of
war; revolvers that they put into service during the War of Independence.
At the
end of the war, few M.1895s returned to the army depots.
During
the 2WW, the available NAGANT M.1895 revolvers were put back into service,
especially among the troops of the 2nd line and the military police.
During
the war, a considerable number of revolvers were still captured, but only a few
hundred were returned to army depots.
Many
soldiers illegally kept captured revolvers as souvenirs of war.
In 1951,
the Finnish Army had 1,400 NAGANT M.1895 revolvers in stock, of which 260 were
single action revolvers.
1175
pieces were sold to a merchant in the United States of America, some were sold
locally, others kept as war souvenirs in Finland.
