Ortmann Herman

It’s a six-shot revolver and with tilting breech. This weapon was the subject of patent 020 669 of 21.10.1866 annexed.

This weapon bears the statutory hallmarks of the Liège proofhouse, namely:

ELG* in a vertical oval: definitive acceptance, in use from 1846 to 1893.

X crowned: regulatory hallmark of the controller, in use from 1852 to 1893.

The gun bears the mark H. Ortmann Inur breveté on the left-hand side of the gun.

The inventor Ortmann Hermann, a weapons manufacturer in Liège rue d’Amay, 13th and then Bd d’Avroy, 74th, was registered on the proofhouse from 1865 to 1879.

He filed five patents for armoury inventions from 1866 to 1887, notably for a revolver system with tilting breech, a revolver system with 7 strokes with central percussion, and a locking system applicable to revolvers.

The applicant also filed five trade marks: The Thunderer – The new american model – Le foudroyant – Exposition universelle 1878 – The defender american model of 1878 – The Lincoln american model.
