Some of the most beautiful work of this craftsman, and many others, are in this book “Liège Gunmakers through their Work. 1800 - 1950”.

PIEPER Nicolas "basculant"
Indisputably it is about
N.PIEPER
Basculant;
being given the type of plates and the apparent absence of markings - except the
n° -, this gun would belong to the very first series of production of this
model, or even of a preproduction.
It is a
very interesting part…
This gun COULD
have been manufactured at Nicolas Pieper during the German occupation 14-18. To
check (if verifiable). Apparently there would have been very little of it…
unless the production was transferred at Steyr in Austria!
I don’t have any information, and even less certainty
on this subject… if not the type of gun:
BASCULANT.
It
rightly, it is well a gun of the DISMOUNTING type, an alternative with a lever
of disassembling located in front of the carcass. It is the first specimen which
I meet…
You will
note “small” the differences compared to the page of the Jansen catalog.
