PREVOST & WOIT

Here is a living/garden rifle, probably in 9 mm annular caliber, an English cross with a grid handle and a carved part of the barrel, marked PREVOST & WOT Bté.

There is only one photographed stamp, ELG on star in oval, accepted between 1846 and 1893.

The site that the whole world envies us has already mentioned Gustave Prévost: http://www.littlegun.be/arme%20belge/artisans%20identifies%20p/a%20prevost%20gustave%20fr.htm

It is not the same rifle, but there is almost no doubt that it is the same PREVOST, especially since the PREVOST filed patent 034761 on June 1, 1874, which resembles furiously the rifle in question.

Drawing of the patent

We notice that the marking PREVOST & WOT Bté is at least, let’s say, wrong, so that this leads us to think that WOT could refer to Claude WOIT, rue Jonfosse 29 in Housse, who filed a patent in the same year that certainly has nothing to do with the weapon in question, but perhaps Gustave PREVOST and Claude WOIT knew each other.
