Some of the most beautiful work of this craftsman, and many others, are in this book “Liège Gunmakers through their Work. 1800 - 1950”.

REMY Jean Joseph

This is a bold gun with an extractor against the handle of the bold which, in all likelihood, stems from patent 31455 dated November 9, 1872 filed by Jean Joseph REMY de Liège.

If I read the text of the patent correctly, he had already submitted a “system” on May 8, 1869, but I have nothing to say about it.

The markings

u under crown: countermark of a controller, between 1853 and 1877;

peron: inspection, since 1853.

We also see the mention Liège and Black, so for black powder of course.

The gun was very heavily polished (so that other markings probably disappeared) and also modified, to the point that it is difficult to say what the original model was. It certainly has a “chassepot air”, so with another lock.

We can also see that there is a screw in the hole of the wand. And there’s no way to fix a bayonet.

GP with the precious help of MAX.
