Some of the most beautiful work of this craftsman, and many others, are in this book “Liège Gunmakers through their Work. 1800 - 1950”.

RENKIN J. veuve

It is about a shotgun to percussion and loading by the mouth. The barrels are juxtaposed and smooth. The calibre was not communicated to me. The barrels are fixed at the wood using keys or drawers. Locks are known as “behind”. The stick is worked “with English” and the catch of hand is squared. The buttplate is “on return”. I did not receive any pictures of the rod of loading. The weapon is damascened in certain places with inserts in particular of one bird to the fine gold and a head of dog in new silver.

The weapon carries mark Vve J. Renkin à Liège. This family of manufacturers of weapons was extremely known in Liège.

The weapon also carries a punch ELG* in a vertical oval which it proof of final acceptance by the proofhouse of Liège of 1846 to 1893.

Figure 28 is in my opinion a serial number.

The mark representing an oval containing letters L.G (so well read) and two sheets of palm trees (?) crossed is unknown for me.

Marks Renkin often used are reproduced in appendix and doesn’t anything correspond with the present mark.
