Some of the most beautiful work of this craftsman, and many others, are in this book “Liège Gunmakers through their Work. 1800 - 1950”.

SCHEPERS François

It is of a shotgun to percussion whose stock is carved “French” i.e. about a human head! Locks are known as “ahead”. The two barrels are in Damas of gauge 18.6 mm. The forearm seem to me be with button?

The weapon carries the lawful punches of the proofhoused of Liege, that is to say:

ELG* in a vertical oval: final acceptance, of use of 1846 to 1893.

Perron: inspection, of use of 1853 to 1893.

18.6: gauge.

EL in English letters: provisional test, of use of 1852 to our days.

T crowned: countermark of the controller, of use of 1853 to 1877.

148: classification of the weapon?

The manufacturer

In spite of an obliteration partial of the mark, it could be a question of the gunmaker of Liège SCHEPERS, Francois, registered with the proofhouse of Liège of 1844 to 1860. It had domiciled in LIEGE Mont Holy Martin, 54. From 1857 to 1860, it deposits 10 patents relating to locks.

SCHEPERS

The weapon

It acts of a shotgun to percussion, two guns in table, front locks.

The photographs do not make it possible to say some more.

Punches.

Spangled ELG in a crowned oval: acceptance of the test (1846/1893)

32: should be a job number.

The weapon must probably carry other punches of the bench of tests of Liege, but they are invisible on the photographs.

The manufacturer

Mark "SCHEPERS A LIEGE" indicates that it acts of a gun of the manufacturer of weapons SCHEPERS Francois, registered voter with the bench of tests of Liege of 1844 to 1860. He was active in Liege street Mont Saint Martin, 54.

From 1857 to 1860, it deposited ten Belgian patents for improvements, modifications and additions with the shotguns.
