Some of the most beautiful work of this craftsman, and many others, are in this book “Liège Gunmakers through their Work. 1800 - 1950”.

SCHERRER Henri
Here is a very beautiful juxtaposed hunting rifle,
probably with locks, manufactured in 1928, sold by the Parisian house
Henri SCHERRER.
A "modern" fibre optic sighting system has been added over time. Trigger gilded,
pretty engravings with hamers and game, alas unsigned, at least according to the
photos provided.
Other
photos of the same weapon are circulating on the web, but I didn’t see a
signature there either.
In the
third picture, the letters Bté for « breveté » (Patent) are shown at the bottom;
upon request, it appears that Bté is preceded by the letters DM. But I don't see
who they're referring to.
The
markings
g: the
annual letter for 1928;
EL:
provisional test, in use since 1852;
Choke
18.3: the barrel is shocked; in use since 1924;
D crowned: trademark registered in 1921 by the gunner
Jean DELCOUR-DUPONT
of Fraipont-Nessonvaux;
1kg398:
the weight of the barrel, in use since 1924;
Perron:
inspection by the proofhouse of Liege, in use since 1853;
105370:
the manufacturing number.
P under
star: countermark of a controller, in use since 1877;
Lion on
PV: smokeless powder proof, in use since 1898;
12-70 in
coated omega: nominal gauge and sleeve length, in use since 1924;
ELG on
star in crowned oval: acceptance by the Test Benc of Liege, in use since 1893.
The Henri
SCHERRER Arms Factory,
81 rue de Turbigo in Paris, with factories in Saint-Etienne and Liége, was
active in the first half of the 20th century. In 1926, she was at 2 rue de
Provence.
Another
weapon of this house, of French manufacture this time, is already on the site
littlegun.info among the French weapons.
Unfortunately, the photos sent do not allow me to put a name on the linked
manufacturer of this very beautiful rifle.
