Some of the most beautiful work of this craftsman, and many others, are in this book “Liège Gunmakers through their Work. 1800 - 1950”.

Warnant (Not signed)
Here is a common mixed rifle type
Warnant
with two superimposed cannons and two triggers but only one dog, above in .22
Flobert long, below in 9 mm Flobert short, so with annular percussion in both
cases. I assume that the upper barrel is striped, the lower barrel is smooth.
The happy owner could have pointed it out.
Markings
Perron :
inspection since 1853
ELG on
star in crowned oval : acceptance between 1893 and 1968
FL 9 m
C: calibre 9 mm Flobert short
8.6 :
inner diameter of lower barrel
FL .22 L
: calibre .22 Flobert long
5.4 :
inner diameter of upper barrel
A under
a star, AB under a star, J under a star: check marks of controllers (between
1877 and 1968)
I also
think I can distinguish the L which has been part of the EL mark for the
provisional event since 1852.
It is a
pity that the manufacturer/gunmaker did not mention his name on this unusual
rifle.
I can’t explain the presence of two triggers; I don’t think it’s a typical trigger on such a garden rifle... but it’s not impossible either. Could the happy owner light my lantern?
GP
Warnant (prénom inconnu)
It is about a rifle
Warnant
to annular percussion. The rifled bore is with eight sides with front sight
(tenon-mortise) and bead out of V. The extractor is with ear. The trigger is
curved and is protected by a trigger guard with volutes. The metal buttplate is
"on return". The butt "with English" seems to be in walnut.
This
weapon does not carry any punch of the proofhouse of Liege although this weapon
is originating in this city.
The
weapon carries the following marks:
Warnant breveté (patent) : mark of the inventive of
Liège. The Warnant
family was well represented in the circle of the arms manufacturers of Liège.
Most important was
Jean Warnant at
the beginning of the 20th century (see the site). The absence of first name
makes the identification difficult, 15 arms manufacturers bearing this name!!!
1305: it
is most probably the classification of the weapon.
L
crowned: ignored significance
MLI (read
so well?) in an oval lying: it is probably the manufacturer of Liège of the
weapon or possibly a subcontractor.
37 and
letter R: marks of workshop?

Warnant (first name unknown)
Revolver in calibre 320 which corresponds to the same
closing principle and with the same marking as the "Warnant
J. mod Francotte" already present on the
site.
The
markings:
On gun:
Patented Warnant; ND and N; No 851; q starred on the left side - On cap: No 468
- On handle flange: FR.
Incidentally, this double numbering is curious.
In the
absence of a first name, it's hard to say which Warnant this weapon is from!
