Some of the most beautiful work of this craftsman, and many others, are in this book “Liège Gunmakers through their Work. 1800 - 1950”.

WILKET-MARIETTE Albert
Here is a very classic
folding rifle "Leclercq type", but the mention
Breveté
(Patented) AW changes the game a little.
Markings
ELG on star in crowned oval: acceptance since 1893;
R under crown: rifled bore, since 1894;
Peron: inspection since 1853;
A under star: countermark of controller since 1877;
FL 22 L: the calibre, . 22 Flobert Long.
AW
Patented: two patents among those deposited by
Albert WILKET (-Mariette,
according to the "Qui est qui de l'armurerie liégeoise") come into account: the
107556 and especially the 115967 of May 27, 1895, an improvement of the previous
one.
They
concern "a flat spring ejector". But my (very minimal) knowledge in mechanics
does not allow me to say if indeed this rifle is indeed to be put in relation
with
Albert WILKET. The temptation is certainly
strong, especially when studying the patent and its design.
GP
with MAX for the patent.

It is
about a collapsible rifle to one shot of the type Flobert. The opening (crack)
is practiced using the key known as “snake” placed on the right of the breech.
The steel
barrel is smooth, of hexagonal form to the breech then round to the mouth.
The stick
out of wooden of walnut seems it is worked with English with squared trigger
guard.
The weapon carries the lawful punches of the profhouse of LIEGE, namely:
ELG* in a vertical oval: final acceptance, of use of 1846 to 1893.
X* and AE*: countermarks of the controllers, of use of 1877 to 1968.
Peron: inspection, of use of 1853 to our days.
EL in English letters: provisional inspection, of use of 1852 to our days.
12N C in a rhombus: gauges and 10.4: gauge in mm.
The weapon also carries the following marks:
Breveté
(Patent) A.W.:
following the patent attached, I think that it is about a rifle
Wilket-Mariette
A. I issue some reserves however because I
did not handle the weapon.
5313: serial number.
Wilket-Mariette Albert
was an arms manufacturer with Cheratte (Liège). It deposited of 1879 to 1901
nothing less than 10 patents, of which the patent attached.
Appendix:
two pages extracted from a catalogue Masereel presenting two weapons in the same
model.
