Breuer Eugène
Here is a pinfire revolver by
Alphonse
Guerriero, Count of Saint-Ange, marked “Breuer
Liège”, rue Louvrex in Liège. According to
the “Who is who of the Liège armoury”, he was registered on the Liège proofhouse
from 1880 to 1912. He filed six patents. However, other sources mention nine
patents from 1860 to 1891. And according to Stockel,
Eugène Breuer
was active between about 1850 and 1912.
Among
these patents, 18574, dated October 3, 1865, sent to us by the same member of
the team. Its title is "system of fixed-barrel pistols and rifles".
A member of the team found two patents (attached),
14009 of March 4, 1863 and
Alphonse Guerriero’s
patent of amendment 15673 of February 1, 1864 corresponds to the revolver we are
dealing with. He filed a total of ten patents in Belgium between 1863 and 1872.
With
regard to the operation only in double action, it appears from the Italian
“original” patent that this is how the revolver was designed.
The happy
owner also wonders why the band surrounds half of the barrel (see photos with
red arrows).
The piece
shown by the red arrow is a circular spring blade, which serves to connect the
barrel of the cylindrical piece to the rear. This one being the drive piece that
rotates the barrel.
