Decortis-Fraikin Gustave
It is a rifle with a lever for opening the breech as well as loading /
unloading!
The barrel is 8-sided. The cheekbone is made of walnut shaped "to the English".
The weapon bears the punches of the Liège proofhouse, namely :
ELG * in a vertical oval: definitive acceptance, in use from 1846 to 1893.
S*: Controller countermark in use from 1877 to 1968.
The gun bears the mark G. Decortis
breveté (patented). This is
Decortis-Fraikin Gustave. He was a weapons manufacturer in Cheratte (a
suburb of Liège) and held 6 patents from 1881 to 1891 for:
- Un système de carabine avec chien faisant culasse.
- Une fermeture des revolvers.
- Un mode d’ouverture automatique des armes à clapet.
- Une carabine hammerless s’armant automatiquement.
- Un percuteur alternatif pour armes à canons doubles.
- Un percuteur alternatif et indicateur pour carabine à
deux coups.
