Some of the most beautiful work of this craftsman, and many others, are in this book “Liège Gunmakers through their Work. 1800 - 1950”.

DESMEDT

Here is a classic pair of percussion pistols of cork manufacture, back plate, beautiful workmanship, striped damask barrels of caliber about 17 mm. Crosse renaissance, bridge with finger rest. It must date from about 1830 to 1850.

There is only a visible marking on the photos (maybe there are others below the cannons?) : the ELG on star in oval, in use until 1893.

We also see that it is indeed a pair, with a 1 and a 2. A pair of duel guns? That is entirely plausible.

We also read "DESMEDT à Liège". Probably the manufacturer or the dealer. But we don’t find the slightest trace of it in the written documents or on the web (there are many photos of this pair when it appeared on an online sales site), at least until now.

One could also argue that it is the owner of this pair, who wanted to mark it in his name. Why not?
