Francotte drop system
Revolver of ordinance with central percussion and box frame. The weapon is equipped with a system of access to the barrel “drop system” i.e. barrel falling towards the left. The barrel is round with plane higher band carrying a back sight quarter of round. The hammer is massive with striker. A safety of the Mauser type is placed on the left side of the carcass. The stick consist of two plates (walnut?) squared, it ends in a ring and its screw-pivot.
The weapon carries the punches of the proofhouse of Liège, namely:
R crowned: rifled bore, of use of 1894 to our days.
B*: countermark of the controller post 1877.
Punch ELG* in a vertical oval is not visible on the photographs!
The weapon carries also various marks like:
A.FRANCOTTE LIEGE: mark from the manufacturer Auguste FRANCOTTE Holy Mont Martin, 62 in LIEGE (see the site).
Crowned AF: mark same manufacturer deposited (or redeposited) the 31.12.1880.
4880: serial number.
8 m/m LEB: gauge 8mm Lebel
B in a circle: marks unknown?
Star with 6 branches: mark unknown. Like could the preceding one, it possibly act of military marks??
