Some of the most beautiful work of this craftsman, and many others, are in this book “Liège Gunmakers through their Work. 1800 - 1950”.

GASSER pistol
It is obviously about a improvement made to pistol FLOBERT known as of living room calibre of them 6 mm by Léopold GASSER Austrian arms manufacturer well known?
The weapon shows the characteristics of a Flobert pistol is:
- A grips rebirth with metal cap and balustrades.
- A trigger guard with puts back finger.
- Two tails of trigger.
- A barrel with sides with brought back bodies of dovetail aiming.
- The barrel is fixed at key.
- Calibre 6 mm rimfire.
The improvement of GASSER is of course in the system of hammer at two notches of armed.
The weapon carries the punches of the proofhouse of Liege, namely:
- Spangled ELG in a crowned oval: acceptance of use of 1846 to 1893.
- U crowned: countermark of the controller, of use of 1853 to 1877.
The weapon also carries mark L.GASSER WIEN on the barrel and is also struck again on wood.
The biography of the famous Vienna’s arms manufacturer is not any more to do (see site). This one, for reasons of cost price most probably, will have made manufacture some of its weapons in LIEGE. If it’s not “G” unknown, the weapon does not carry any mark of the manufacturer of Liège what is not astonishing, the mark of GASSER prevailed on very other. The weapons of GASSER were copied much in Liege, in particular the MONTENEGRIN, max FLIEGENSCHMIDT was of these arms manufacturers of Liège. Of German origin, the correspondence of language will have perhaps facilitated the businesses between GASSER and him but it’s only one assumption. He worked of 1888 to 1908 then was taken again by FRANCHEN & LÜNENSCHLOSS

It took me a certain time to understand the mechanism!!
Indeed the double trigger functions only under precise conditions!!
Here the explanation: There are two notches of armed with the hammer but the second notch is only used to release the passage to make rock the cover plate of the breech in order to actuate the ejector and to put new ammunition.
For having put the ammunition, it is necessary to bring back the hammer to the first notch of armed, and only at this time one can arm the double trigger (Stretcher).
The percussion is of an incredible sensitivity!
