Nicolas Joseph Henket
The weapon
Revolver with vertical percussion (pinfire) with open frame, of system LEFAUCHEUX.
The rifled bore is with 8 sides with raised back sight with barley grain.
The cylinder with 6 blows of gauge 5mm to pin is smooth.
The curved and smooth trigger without trigger guard is folded up under the carcass.
The rod of the nail type slides in a guide integrated into the carcass.
The plates of stick out of wooden of walnut smooth, are maintained by a transverse screw and two brass rivet washers.
Punches
The weapon carries the punches of the proofhouse of Liege, namely:
ELG on star in a crowned oval: final acceptance post 1893.
P reversed under star: countermark of the controller post 1877.
R crowned: rifled bore, of use of 1894 to 1968.
Marks
The only visible mark on the carcass is NJH which must probably be that of the manufacturer. Its identification is dubious bus not appearing in the book of the marks of arms manufacturer of Liège. Who’s Who indicates an arms manufacturer of Liège named HENKET Nicolas Joseph, known for the deposit of 4 patents in 1859 and 1884, in particular for a gun-revolver with 6 blows taking care using cartridges LEFAUCHEUX.
This patent n° 014878 of the 24.08.1863 is appended.
However, a doubt remains because the dates don’t really correspond.
