Some of the most beautiful work of this craftsman, and many others, are in this book “Liège Gunmakers through their Work. 1800 - 1950”.

Henri Pieper
Here is a
very rare Pieper ducket with 7 strokes, ultra -known since the publication of
the book “Bayard, les hommes, les armes et les machines du Chevalier, Pieper &
Cie” by Michel Druart.
The very
happy owner informs me that he is . 320 at the muzzle of the gun, whereas the
book mentions .22 (type 700) and .297 annular (type 701)... mystery...You’d have
to present the two ammunition to get a clear picture. It should also be noted
that there is no mention of 700 or 701 on the weapon anywhere. Was there one
originally?
Let’s sum
This is an improvement, by Henri Pieper, on the invention of the Liège gunmaker
Charles Lenders, which was the subject of patent 2161 of 20 December 1855, of a
“seven-gun rifle starting at a time and loading by the breech”. The improvement
relates to the use of metal ring-impact cartridges and the use a breech derived
from the Remington Rolling Block system.
The
markings are of the most classic:
ELG on
star in oval: accepted, in use until July 11, 1893 (note that this rifle is
included in an 1893 catalogue..)
Z under
star: countermark of a controller in use since 1877.
GP and Michel Druart.
