FLOBERT Nicolas
Here is a
FLOBERT
firearm sold by the Marseille armourer Zaoué, which was the subject of a very
interesting notice on the Lefaucheux site
https://lefaucheuxnet.wordpress.com/2021/03/10/zaoue-georges-armurier-a-marseille/
Here is a “classic” but REAL
FLOBERT
pistol, sold by the well-known Marseille gunsmith Georges Zaoué, active between
1841 and 1855.
Thanks to the link below and the punch on the left
side of the gun and on two photos, it can be attributed to
Nicolas FLOBERT,
whose manufacturing workshop was founded in Paris in 1846 :

I wonder
why only the name Zaoué appears, when there is still room for Marseille, for
example...
It is also difficult to see that another engraving
appears on the gun, which a member of the team identified as Charlemagne. It’s
not good work (and besides, the machine isn’t twenty years old anymore...). As
for the reason of this Charlemagne engraving... I don’t have an explanation.
(Unless the shooter had a big white beard?).
Concerning the Flobert arms and also Zaoué, you will find valuable information
here, and in particular other photos of the brand of the standing lion with
Flobert Inv. Bté:

The
caliber is 6 mm annular percussion.
