It is about a rifle COMBLAIN model 1882 of the Civic Guard intended for the infantry of this body.
The weapon measures 1m380. The barrel carries 4 left-handed stripes of the step of 0m55.
Its gauge is of 11mm.
The barrel carries a rise to cursor, the same one as rifle TERSEN, it allows the shooting 1400 meters.
Its weight is 4 kg 110.
This weapon was accompanied by a sword-bayonet with right and frayed blade.
The weapon carries the lawful punches of the bench of tests of Liege, namely:
ELG on star inside an oval: final acceptance of use of 1846 to 1893.
Perron: inspection post 1853.
S surmounted of a star: countermark of the controller post 1877.
The weapon also carries the hallmarks military of the “Manufacture d’armes de l’Etat” (Manufactory of weapons of the State) to Liege, namely:
NC in an oval with pointed nap: mark test of Manufacture on the box of breech.
S in a vertical rhombus: mark of controller for metal parts.
DLB with volutes and idem in a circle: markings of the controllers of completed wood.
Ring with a lion drawn up in the center and Civic Garde 1882 on the circumference: marking of the Civic Guard.
Mark of the manufacturer
The oval mark struck wood and carrying an S L in its center and “Syndicat Liégeois des armes de guerres” (Trade union of Liège of the weapons of wars) is the mark of the manufacturer of the weapon.
The Trade union of Liège for the manufacture of the weapons of war was located to HERSTAL.
It was registered with the proofhouse of Liège of 1882 to 1886. It was founded by the association of the manufacturers of Liège Jules ANCION & Co - DRESSE-LALOUX & Co - Auguste FRANCOTTE - PIRLOT & FRESART.
This company deposited 3 trademarks in 1884.
