Some of the most beautiful work of this craftsman, and many others, are in this book “Liège Gunmakers through their Work. 1800 - 1950”.

MORISSEAUX Nicolas-Charles

Here is a splendid Lefaucheux system shotgun (pinfire cartridges) in its box with all its accessories; signed H or N (I can’t distinguish between the two initials) Ch MORISSEAUX for the French writer Alexandre Dumas. Father (1802-1870) or son (1824-1895)? It doesn't matter.

According to the website

https://www.facebook.com/notes/projet-arsène-garnier/lexposition-victor-hugo-organisée-par-arsène-garnier/1012941835557848/?__tn__=H-R a certain N Ch MORISSEAUX is the maker of such a beautiful rifle, with box and accessories, given in April 1868 to another French writer : Victor Hugo !

Unfortunately, there is very little information about these MORISSEAUX, other than that they were part of a large family active in Liège throughout the nineteenth century and even a little more, from 1789 to 1900. One H Ch MORISSEAUX is mentioned to have been active in Liège between 1867 and 1880, which corresponds to the period when this type of rifle may have been manufactured. There is also a NC MORISSEAUX, registered at the proofhouse of Liège between 1880 and 1900, but in our opinion it does not come into account since it is too late.

There are only a few markings, namely the EL for the provisional test in use since 1852, 17.4, probably the diameter of the barrel at the time of the test. We also see the letters MM, probably from the manufacturer of the beautiful damask barrels, but they are not assigned.
