Rolling Block
It is about a rifle of the type “ROLLING BLOCK” invented by brothers REMINGTON.
This system was already largely described on our site (see Nagant). This weapon
doesn't however carry any explicit marking of manufacturer. The cartridge
presented resembles furiously the 11 mm Remington to ball lead!
The
origin is however without question of Liège as the punches of the proofhouse of
Liège attest :
ELG* in a crowned oval:
acceptance, of use of 1893 to 1968.
R crowned:
rifled bore of use of 1894 to our days.
L*:
countermark of the controller, of use of 1877 to 1968.
Peron:
inspection of 1853 to our days.
12.1:
gauge in mm, of use of 1889 to our days.
Letters EL in cursive:
provisional test, of use of 1852 to our days.
The weapon also carries following markings:
1875:
it is perhaps the date of manufacturing (without certainty?).
