Lepage Frères / Rocour-delsa

This weapon may have been manufactured for or by Lepage Frères in Paris, as indicated on the frame. This well-known company may have had the weapon manufactured in Liège, although the name of the Liège gunsmith, the actual manufacturer, is not specified.

It derives from the Fagnus patent, more precisely from improvement patent 28560 of March 14, 1871, in the name of A. Fagnus & Cie.

It is a revolver with a lifting barrel and cylinder (revolver) with an extractor, 6 shots, .450 caliber (Adams?).

The operation is as follows: The trigger guard (trigger) splits in two: The rear part is rotated a quarter turn, which sets the hammer to the first notch. The front part can then be pulled upwards; initially, the barrel and cylinder rise. By increasing the pull, it acts as a lever for the star-shaped extractor, which then ejects from its housing. Smooth walnut grips (?), butt cap ring.

But this weapon also bears, on the rear of the cylinder, the mark RD in an oval, which belongs to Rocour Delsa!

Is this the manufacturer of the weapon, or only of the cylinder?

Markings:

On the top of the "bridge": Lepage Freres, Paris (in cursive script)

On the rear of the cylinder: the Lepage Freres logo, the rampant lion surmounted by the letters LF in a shield and "CASTSTEEL".

On the frame to the left, below the cylinder: the serial number 140.

On the front of the cylinder: RD in an oval, (Rocour-Delsa)

Inverted crowned P: countermark of the inspector from December 30, 1853 to January 26, 1877.

ELG on a star within an oval: final acceptance from September 8, 1846 to July 10, 1893.

This weapon, derived from the Fagnus patent, could have been manufactured, in whole or in part, by Lepage Frères or Rocour-Delsa.
