It is indeed about a transformed Belgian MAUSER!

The weapon carries punch EGB* in a vertical oval which is the punch of tests of the Belgian Government.

49782 is a serial number.

MANUFACTURE D’ARMES DE L’ETAT (MANUFACTORY OF THE STATE): it is about the only manufactory of the State located in LIEGE street Saint Léonard which existed of 1838 to 1940. It could leave 10.000 weapons per annum bound for the Belgian gendarmerie and army corps.

It was in particular manufactured there Mauser 1889, Belgian Mauser gauges 7,5 of the models 35-36.
