Some of the most beautiful work of this craftsman, and many others, are in this book “Liège Gunmakers through their Work. 1800 - 1950”.

Rongé Jean-Baptiste

It is acted in fact of a revolver of origin of Liège to central percussion. It is equipped with a grooved cylinder with 6 shots of which I am unaware of the calibre. The loading is practiced share the right side door and of the same unloading. The barrel is striped as attests some the punch R crowned; it carries a front sight in half-moon. This weapon is equipped with a side safety of Mauser type. The stick with two plates of walnut squared ends in a metal cap and a ring with its screw-pivot.

The weapon carries the lawful punches of the proofhouse of Liège, namely:

ELG* in a crowned oval: final acceptance post 1893.

R crowned: rifled bore, of use of 1894 to 1968.

Coupled AH spangled: countermark of the controller post 1877.

The weapon also carries the following marks:

L crowned: it is not about a mark of the bench of tests, to date it remains not identified.

1285: it is most probably about the serial number.

Crowned JBR: mark of factory of Jean-baptiste Rongé in Liège, places Saint Jean n°4.

I could not identify the mark on the internal face of the barrel presented on one of the photographs!

In appendix: page extracted from a catalog J.B. Rongé presenting the same type of weapon more or less.
